엔비디아가 화요일에, 마벨과 갭이 목요일에 실적을 냈습니다. 8월 마지막 주에 미국은 실적 시즌을 한 주 더 치렀습니다.
마벨이 발표한 것은 8월 1일에 끝난 분기입니다. 엔비디아는 같은 여름을 2027회계연도 2분기라고 불렀고, 갭은 2026회계연도 2분기라고 불렀습니다. 갭의 2026년과 엔비디아의 2027년은 둘 다 2027년 1월 말에 끝납니다.
미국에서는 회사가 결산월을 직접 정합니다. 유통업체들은 연말 대목이 끝나고 반품 정산까지 마무리되는 1월 말을 결산일로 잡았습니다. 기술기업 중에도 같은 1월 결산을 쓰는 곳이 꽤 됩니다. 그래서 이들의 2분기는 7월에 끝나고, 실적은 8월 말에 나옵니다. 12월 결산 회사들이 7월에 마친 지 한참 뒤입니다.
이번 주 게시판을 채운 종목은 대체로 그냥 실적을 낸 회사들입니다.
마벨은 분기 최대 매출을 내고도 8% 가까이 빠졌습니다. 총이익률 가이던스 한 줄 때문입니다. 엔비디아는 960억 달러를 넘겼고 올랐습니다. 갭은 연간 전망을 올렸습니다.
이 셋이 공유하는 것은 업종이 아닙니다. 결산일입니다.

Marvell's release named the quarter that ended August 1. Nvidia called that same summer the second quarter of fiscal 2027. Gap called it the second quarter of fiscal 2026. Gap's 2026 and Nvidia's 2027 both end in late January 2027.
In the US a company picks its own fiscal year. Retailers landed on a year that closes in late January, after the holidays are done and the returns are counted. A number of technology companies ended up on that same January close. So their second quarter runs out in July, and the reports land at the end of August — long after the December-year companies wrapped up.
Most of the tickers filling the board this week are just the ones that happened to report.
Marvell put up record quarterly revenue and fell about eight percent, on one line of gross margin guidance. Nvidia cleared $96 billion and rose. Gap lifted its full-year outlook.
What these three don't share is an industry. They share a closing date.
