Today, the Korean stock market saw a stark divergence, with the KOSPI closing higher driven by strong performance in large-cap semiconductor stocks, while the KOSDAQ experienced a sharp decline. Boosted by the bullish trend in the global cryptocurrency market, related domestic stocks also showed a concurrent upward movement. The KOSPI finished the trading session at 6,912.95, up 60.37 points or 0.88% from the previous trading day. This was attributed to the positive impact of strong performances by memory semiconductor companies on investor sentiment in the New York stock market overnight. Notably, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rose in tandem, leading the index's rebound, with Samsung Electronics showing a gain of over 3% on expectations of shareholder returns. In contrast, the KOSDAQ plummeted by more than 4%, barely clinging to the 800-point level. During the session, sell-sidecar was activated due to concentrated program selling, amplifying market anxiety. Overall, the number of declining stocks significantly outnumbered advancing stocks, indicating that the KOSPI's rise was confined to a few large-cap companies. In the foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate declined, closing at 1,386.5 won, down 6.1 won from the previous trading day. This was influenced by companies' dollar selling exceeding buying, leading to a stronger won. A falling exchange rate can reduce the burden for import companies and enhance foreign investors' appeal to the domestic stock market. A noteworthy sector was cryptocurrency-related stocks. With Bitcoin surpassing $70,000 and exceeding 100 million won, domestic crypto-related stocks rallied across the board. In particular, Woori Technology Investment, a major shareholder of Upbit operator Dunamu, surged by 19.96%. This is interpreted as being driven by increased US Treasury buybacks and expectations of eased virtual asset regulations boosting investor sentiment. Today's market was positively influenced by the steady performance of large-cap semiconductor stocks and the bullish cryptocurrency market. However, as evidenced by the sharp decline in the KOSDAQ market, overall market sentiment remained fragile. In the next trading session, the key points to watch will be whether the KOSDAQ market experiences a technical rebound due to overselling and the continued strength of the semiconductor sector.

Korean stocks, Samsung and SK Hynix went up. Semiconductor-related stocks are still strong. But, the KOSPI went up while the KOSDAQ went down? That's a bit complex.

I do think that semiconductor-related stocks are strong, but I didn't expect such a difference between KOSPI and KOSDAQ... Is there any special reason for that?
